Brief Overview

This interactive session provides general practitioners and practice staff with a clear understanding of the Medicare Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) process, from initial patient assessment to referral and follow-up. Through discussion and active participation, participants will explore best practices for intake, counselling, and psychology referrals, as well as effective collaboration with mental health professionals to ensure continuity of care.

Program Details

By completing this activity, participants will:

  1. Expand knowledge of Medicare Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) eligibility, structure, and documentation requirements.

  2. Develop practical skills in conducting patient assessments, preparing MHCPs, and managing the referral and intake process for counselling and psychology services.

  3. Enhance communication and coordination between general practice and mental health providers to support integrated, patient-centred care.

  4. Foster positive attitudes toward proactive mental health intervention and collaborative care within general practice teams.
