Program Details

Participants will be able to:

  1. Describe common and emerging gastroenterological conditions relevant to primary care.

  2. Select appropriate investigations and interpret results to guide management.

  3. Apply evidence-based management strategies for GI conditions and determine when specialist referral is required.

  4. Adopt a proactive, patient-centred approach to GI symptoms, improving early detection and care.

  • GPs often have limited up-to-date knowledge on new developments in gastroenterological care.

  • Clinicians may feel uncertain about which investigations to order, when to refer, and how to manage common GI presentations in primary care.

  • There is a need to strengthen GP confidence in interpreting results, initiating early management, and aligning care with current best-practice guidelines.

This activity supports clinicians to use patient care data and outcomes to refine practice by:

  • Encouraging clinicians to reflect on their current patterns of investigation, referral, and management of GI presentations.

  • Supporting the use of follow-up and outcome data (e.g., symptom improvement, investigation results, referral outcomes) to assess whether management aligns with best practice.

  • Enabling clinicians to identify opportunities to improve care pathways and apply updated approaches in future consultations.
