Aim:
To enhance GPs’ confidence and clinical skills in identifying mental health risks, understanding the therapeutic benefits of group‑based psychological programs, and effectively utilising Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (MHNP) services to support patients with a range of mental health needs.
Learning outcomes:
1.Recognise early warning signs, behavioural cues, and clinical indicators of psychological distress and risk (including self‑harm, harm to others, and acute deterioration) in others, and apply structured approaches for timely assessment and escalation
2.Identify when referral to a Mental Health Nurse Practitioner is appropriate, understand the scope of MHNP practice, and integrate MHNP-led interventions into collaborative care pathways for patients requiring ongoing mental health support.
3. Explain the therapeutic mechanisms, evidence base, and clinical suitability of psychological group programs, and describe how these programs complement GP management plans for ongoing mental health care.
