Brief Overview

This educational program provides general practitioners with an up-to-date overview of diabetes management, with a focus on the clinical application of Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) technology, including the Freestyle Libre 2 Plus system. Participants will gain insights into how CGM can enhance glycaemic control, support patient engagement, and prevent diabetes-related complications.

The session will also cover the latest updates in diabetes diagnosis, pharmacotherapy, and patient-centred care, equipping GPs with practical tools to optimise outcomes across diverse patient populations. Delivered by experienced clinicians, this program combines evidence-based education with real-world case examples to help participants integrate emerging technologies and treatment strategies into everyday practice.

Program Details

By completing this activity, participants will be able to:

  1. Explain how CGM technology, including Freestyle Libre 2 Plus, functions and benefits diabetes management.

  2. Identify appropriate patients for CGM use and understand funding and access pathways.

  3. Interpret CGM data to adjust therapy, identify trends, and prevent hypoglycaemia or hyperglycaemia.

  4. Apply the latest diabetes management updates in clinical practice to enhance patient outcomes.

  5. Communicate effectively with patients about the role of CGM in supporting self-management and long-term control.

Program Outcome

  • Many GPs have limited familiarity with emerging CGM technologies such as the Freestyle Libre 2 Plus and how to integrate them into diabetes management.

  • There is a knowledge gap in interpreting CGM data and applying it to adjust therapy and prevent complications.

  • GPs often require clearer understanding of patient eligibility, funding pathways, and device access under current diabetes programs.

  • The growing prevalence of diabetes highlights the need for up-to-date knowledge of clinical guidelines and best-practice management strategies.

  • Enhanced confidence in discussing and recommending CGM supports more personalised and proactive diabetes care.

  • Gain up-to-date knowledge of diabetes management, including emerging treatments and technologies.

  • Understand the clinical role and functionality of Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) systems such as Freestyle Libre 2 Plus.

  • Develop skills to interpret CGM data and apply insights to optimise patient therapy.

  • Build confidence in identifying suitable patients for CGM use and navigating funding or access pathways.

  • Strengthen ability to integrate CGM insights into holistic, evidence-based diabetes care within general practice.
