Youth Mental Health and Neurodivergence: A Practical Guide for General Practice
Youth Mental Health and Neurodivergence: A Practical Guide for General Practice
27.5.2026 18.00

A free 1-hour CPD webinar for GPs and primary care clinicians

Young adulthood is one of the most clinically complex periods for mental health presentations. With nearly 39% of Australians aged 16–24 experiencing a mental health disorder in the past 12 months, GPs are often the first — and most important — point of contact.

This free evening webinar is designed for GPs and primary care clinicians who want practical, evidence-informed approaches to working with young adults (18–25). Led by consultant psychiatrists from Deakin Private Hospital, the session is intentionally small-group and interactive — cameras and microphones on, questions welcome throughout.

What we'll cover

— Prevalence and key trends in youth mental health across Australia

— Recognising anxiety, mood disorders, and substance use in young adults

— Assessment tools and engagement strategies for the GP consultation

— Neurodivergence and co-occurring conditions: a case-based approach

— Referral pathways and collaborative care with specialist services

— Live Q&A and open discussion

Speakers

  • Dr Ava Carter - Medical Director & Psychiatrist, Deakin Private Hospital
  • Dr Ashish Vaikyl - Psychiatrist, Deakin Private Hospital

GPs, GP registrars, practice nurses, and other primary care clinicians managing young adult patients are all welcome to attend.
