Brief Overview
This education program is designed to equip GP's with practical knowledge and confidence in managing patients across the gastrointestinal (GI) surgical spectrum. From early recognition of red flags and appropriate referrals, to understanding common surgical procedures and supporting post-operative care, the course bridges the gap between primary care and surgical specialties
Program Details

Describe the pathophysiology and clinical presentation of common upper GI conditions (e.g. GORD, gallstones, hernias).

Identify key red flag symptoms that warrant urgent investigation or specialist referral.

Understand the indications and basic principles of common upper GI surgical procedures.

Program Outcome

GP's often encounter patients with upper gastrointestinal symptoms, ranging from common issues like gastroesophageal reflux to more serious conditions requiring surgical intervention. However, many GPs face challenges in accurately diagnosing these conditions, recognizing red flags that warrant urgent referral, and managing ongoing care effectively. This education program aims to close these knowledge and skill gaps by enhancing GPs’ ability to: -Differentiate between benign and potentially serious upper GI conditions. -Understand when and how to initiate appropriate investigations. -Identify indications for referral to gastroenterologists or surgeons.

Recognize common and uncommon upper GI symptoms and distinguish between functional and pathological causes.

Identify red flags and urgent indicators that require prompt referral to specialist care.

Understand the diagnostic workup for upper GI disorders, including appropriate use of investigations such as endoscopy, imaging, and laboratory tests.

Explain indications, benefits, and risks of common upper GI surgeries to patients, facilitating informed decision-making.
