Brief Overview
The Specialist Second Opinion Service (SSOS) offers a structured approach to reassessing a participant’s recovery journey at a defined point in time. This program helps clinicians, case managers, and rehabilitation coordinators understand how to use second opinions effectively to guide treatment planning, clarify next steps, and optimise functional outcomes. Delivered by experienced specialists, this session explores when and how to request a second opinion, how to interpret the findings, and how this process integrates with broader rehabilitation and return-to-work strategies.

Program Outcome

This service is used to gain a better understanding of a participant’s overall recovery status at a set point in time and to define a rehabilitation pathway to assist them to continue in their recovery. This service is appropriate when existing treatment options are no longer effective in aiding the participant progress their recovery, or there is general uncertainty about next steps in rehabilitation and return to work/life, and a second opinion can provide valuable insight that will assist in developing an informed recovery strategy moving forward. It may also serve as a pathway for those who would benefit from participation in our AIMS or a functional restoration program with Guardian Exercise Rehabilitations allied health team. This service is not appropriate to addressspecific queries that fall outside of the information included in the key outcomes for this service.
